In 2005, Marina Abramović did a series of seven performance pieces at the Guggenheim in NYC. Titled Seven Easy Pieces, she performed once a day for an entire week, replicating what she believed were pivotal performance art pieces in history. Inspired by Valie Export’s 1969 piece, Action Pants: Genital Panic, Abramović wore crotchless pants and a tight leather jacket as she walked through the audience and challenged the public to accept a woman that broke the socially accepted idea of femininity.
